Introducing Horizon: A Build Outside the Lineup

When "Off the Lineup" Is the Whole Point

Every so often, a build comes through the shop that doesn’t fit neatly into our usual lineup. Horizon is one of those builds.

This blue grey 144” AWD Sprinter wasn’t designed to haul a crowd or check every box on a standard spec sheet. It was designed around a simple brief: build something for two people that never asks them to compromise. The result is a van that feels less like a departure from our usual approach and more like a distillation of it.

Horizon started with a local couple who fell in love with our Model H, our largest shower van, but didn’t need its 3500 170” EXT footprint. They wanted the same wet room, the same thoughtful storage, the same finish level, just built around a shorter wheelbase and a life made for two. So that’s exactly what we set out to build.

Built for Two, Not a Crowd

Horizon seats two and sleeps two. That’s it. But building around two people didn’t mean building around less. It meant the flex space we’re known for could be put to work in three directions at once: a full aluminum panel bed, generous dinette seating that doubles as workspace, and storage bins and totes built in underneath all of it. The same flexibility that lets our builds carry a family and their gear was simply redirected here, engineered around a smaller crew with room to spare.

Full leather. Full Comfort. Inside, Horizon's front cab seating is finished in full custom leather upholstery. The driver and passenger seats are Mercedes-Benz factory approved swivel bases, so the cab folds seamlessly into the living space when parked. It’s a detail that sounds small on paper and changes everything in practice.

Marine Grade Aluminum, Top to Bottom

As with every EO build, Horizon’s cabinetry is constructed from marine grade aluminum. It’s a material choice that costs more and takes longer to work with than the particleboard and laminate used elsewhere in the industry, but it’s also the reason our builds hold up to years of washboard roads, temperature swings, and daily use without the sag, swell, or wear that lesser materials show early.

Clean, No Matter Where You Are

Horizon carries both an interior and an exterior shower. It’s a small detail that changes how a trip actually runs. Muddy trailhead, campsite with no cell service, or just a quick rinse before climbing into bed, Horizon doesn’t make you choose between convenience and weather. Both showers draw from a generous water system, and grey water is handled separately so the rest of the plumbing never has to compromise for it.

Capable Enough to Actually Use

Horizon carries the same running gear we spec into our overland focused builds. Aluminess front and rear bumpers, a Warn winch, Van Compass suspension with adjustable Rally struts, and dual ARB air compressors front and back mean this van isn’t just styled to look capable. It’s built to be driven the way it looks like it should be.

A Build Outside the Lineup

Horizon won’t show up as a standard option on our build sheet, and that’s by design. Every so often we take on a build that lets us push the standard formula somewhere new, and Horizon is the product of that. It’s proof that even outside our usual model lineup, the same standards apply: marine grade materials, real capability, and a finish level that doesn’t cut corners because the layout is different.

Every Exclusive Outfitters Sprinter van conversion tells its own story. From compact off-road rigs to legacy builds that are still out there putting in miles, each van that leaves our floor is engineered with the same philosophy: purpose-built, fully dialed, and ready for wherever you point it. Here are a few of our favorites.

  • 🔗Weight Matters – Horizon’s marine grade aluminum cabinetry and chassis-mounted systems aren’t a styling choice. This piece breaks down why weight distribution is one of the most important engineering decisions in a Sprinter conversion, and how it shapes handling, braking, and durability for years after delivery.

  • 🔗144 vs 170 Sprinter Camper Van: Why the 144” Wheelbase Is the Sweet Spot – Horizon’s owners chose the same 144” footprint we cover here, and for good reason. This article digs into why the shorter wheelbase often outperforms a 170” van in daily drivability, maneuverability, and livability, without sacrificing what makes a build feel like home.

  • 🔗Tidy by Design: Smart Storage Inside Exclusive Outfitters Vans – The flex space and storage philosophy built into Horizon comes straight from this approach. Take a closer look at the soft storage systems, MOLLE panels, and modular bins EO engineers into every build so gear has a place and the cabin stays clean no matter how far you’ve traveled.
